Every summer Friday, Manhattan empties toward the East End, and a trip of around 100 miles can turn into three, four or even five hours. Buses and trains fill up fast, and driving yourself means arriving too tired to enjoy the weekend. A private car service from NYC to the Hamptons is the option many people don’t price until they’ve been stuck on the LIE once. How long does it take from Manhattan to the Hamptons?
These are typical door-to-door times from Midtown. Actual times depend on the day, weather and events.

The usual choke points are the Queens-Midtown Tunnel, the eastern stretch of the LIE and Route 27 east of Southampton. Our chauffeurs check live traffic before and during the drive and switch between the LIE, Sunrise Highway and local roads when that’s faster.

Splitting an SUV between four friends makes door-to-door service surprisingly competitive, and the trunk takes the beach chairs, cooler and weekend bags. Book a one-way transfer, or keep a car for the weekend through our hourly chauffeur service.
Friday strategy: when to leave Manhattan
- Before 11 a.m.: close to normal drive times. Leave early and work from the car.
- 11 a.m.–1 p.m.: often the sweet spot, usually only a little over normal.
- 2–6 p.m.: the exodus. Allow at least an extra 90 minutes, and more for Montauk.
- After 8 p.m.: traffic usually clears again.
Many regulars swear by Thursday evening instead: leave after work on Thursday and you’ll be at dinner out east while everyone else is still planning Friday.
Sunday and Monday returns
Sunday afternoon from about 3 p.m. is the westbound version of Friday. The easiest options are to leave before noon on Sunday, after 8 p.m. on Sunday, or very early on Monday morning. With a dawn pickup you can be at your desk in Midtown for the start of the working day.
A weekend car in the Hamptons
Many clients keep a chauffeured vehicle for part of the weekend: dinner in Sag Harbor, the beach, a vineyard visit, and no one worrying about parking in the villages or who’s driving home. Ask about an hourly, as-directed booking when you request your quote.

What fits in each vehicle

Can we make a stop on the way?
Yes. A quick stop at a farm stand, bakery or grocery store is easy to add. Tell us when you book so it’s built into your quote.
Is there a surge on summer Fridays?
No. You get a flat rate agreed at booking, whatever the traffic on the day.
Do you serve Shelter Island and the North Fork?
Yes. We cover the North Fork directly and Shelter Island via the ferry. Ask us about ferry costs when you request a quote.
How far ahead should I book for July 4th or Labor Day weekend?
At least two weeks. SUVs and Sprinters are the first vehicles to go on holiday Fridays.
Can the chauffeur stay for the weekend and drive us around on Saturday?
Yes. Ask about an hourly, as-directed booking for Saturday dinners, beach trips and vineyard visits.
