Long Island’s North Fork has more than 40 wineries along a 25-mile stretch of Route 25 and Sound Avenue between Riverhead and Orient Point. It’s one of the best day trips in New York — and one of the worst places to be the designated driver. How does a private wine tour with a limo or party bus work?
You book the vehicle by the hour — most tours run 6 to 8 hours door to door — and you own it for that time. Your chauffeur picks the group up at a home, train station or hotel, drives the route you’ve chosen (or one we suggest), waits at each vineyard, and brings everyone back. There’s no set schedule, no strangers on the bus, and you can change the plan mid-day if one winery turns out to be the favorite.

How much does a Long Island wine tour limo cost?
Hourly rates depend on the vehicle. Most wine tours have a 6-hour minimum on Saturdays in season (May–October).

Split a party Sprinter twelve ways and you’re at roughly the price of a train ticket to Greenport each — with the chauffeur, the sound system and the cooler included. Tolls and gratuity are in the quote; tasting fees at the wineries are not.
Sample North Fork wine tour itineraries
The classic (6 hours, 4 wineries)
- 10:30 a.m. – Pickup in Nassau County or western Suffolk
- 11:45 a.m. – Macari Vineyards, Mattituck: outdoor tasting, large groups welcome
- 1:00 p.m. – Bedell Cellars, Cutchogue: art-filled tasting room, order lunch from Lombardi’s Love Lane Market ahead of time
- 2:30 p.m. – Pindar Vineyards, Peconic: big lawn, live music on weekends
- 3:45 p.m. – Sparkling Pointe, Southold: finish with sparkling wine
- 4:30 p.m. – Depart; home by 6:00 p.m.
The bubbles-and-beer route (7 hours)
Sparkling Pointe → Greenport Harbor Brewing → Kontokosta Winery (waterfront) → lunch in Greenport village → Lenz Winery on the way home.
The Hamptons crossover (8 hours)
Wölffer Estate in Sagaponack and Channing Daughters in Bridgehampton, then the Shelter Island ferry across to the North Fork for Sparkling Pointe and Croteaux (rosé only). Ask us about ferry timing — the Sprinter fits on the South Ferry.
Which North Fork wineries welcome limos and party buses?
Most do, but a few rules changed in recent seasons:
- Reservations are required for groups of 8+ at nearly every winery on weekends. We recommend booking tastings 2–3 weeks ahead in September and October.
- Some wineries limit or refuse party buses on peak weekends (notably a few in Cutchogue and Peconic). Executive Sprinters without party lighting are accepted everywhere; if you want the party interior, tell us the wineries you’ve chosen and we’ll confirm before you book.
- No outside alcohol on winery grounds — drink on the bus between stops, not in the parking lot.
- Tasting fees are typically $15–$30 per person, sometimes waived with bottle purchases.
When is the best time for a Long Island wine tour?
- September–October (harvest): peak season, best atmosphere, live music, busiest roads. Book vehicles 4–6 weeks ahead.
- May–June: warm, green, far fewer crowds. The best value.
- July–August: hot and busy; go early and finish by 3 p.m.
- November–April: many wineries stay open weekends with indoor tastings and fireplaces; hourly minimums drop to 4 hours.

How many wineries can we visit in one day?
Four is the sweet spot for a 6-hour tour. Five is possible if the stops are close together (Cutchogue–Peconic–Southold); six starts to feel rushed.
Can we bring our own food and drinks on the limo or bus?
Yes. Coolers, snacks and your own drinks are welcome on board. Many groups pick up sandwiches at Love Lane in Mattituck for the first stop.
Is there a minimum number of hours?
6 hours on Saturdays in May–October; 4 hours on weekdays, Sundays and off-season.
Do you organize the winery reservations?
We’ll suggest a route and tell you which stops need reservations, but the group makes the bookings so the winery has your name and card on file.
